Recognize Stress, Care for Your Mind
Before It Gets Tired

Supporting the Mental Well-Being of Healthcare Professionals

Every day, healthcare professionals face a wide range of responsibilities—from caring for patients and solving problems to working under time constraints. As a result, stress can happen to anyone.

A healthy level of stress can sometimes help motivate us and improve our performance.

However, when stress continues to build without proper care, it can affect our physical health, emotional well-being, work performance, and relationships with those around us.

Check In With Yourself

Are You Experiencing Too Much Stress?

Try noticing these signs in yourself.

Physical Signs

Headaches, fatigue, heart palpitations, muscle aches, difficulty sleeping, or feeling unrefreshed after waking up.

Emotional Signs

Irritability, anxiety, boredom, feeling unhappy, emotionally drained, or having little energy.

Cognitive Signs

Difficulty concentrating, overthinking, trouble making decisions, forgetfulness, or feeling that everything at work is overwhelming.

Behavioral Signs

Withdrawing from others, not wanting to talk, eating more or less than usual, or experiencing reduced work performance.

Caring for Your Mind at Work

5 Ways to Care for Your Mind During the Workday

1

Take Short Breaks Throughout the Day

Give yourself a brief break from work, even if it is only for a few minutes. Take a short walk, stretch, or change your surroundings to give your mind and body a chance to relax.

2

Breathe Slowly and Stay Present

When you feel tense or stressed, try taking slow, steady breaths. Slow down your thoughts and focus on handling one problem at a time.

3

Recharge Your Body

Eat balanced meals, drink enough water, stay physically active, and prioritize sleep. When your body is exhausted, it can become harder to cope with stress.

4

You Don't Have to Handle Everything Alone

Talk with a colleague, supervisor, family member, or someone you trust. Sharing your thoughts and hearing another perspective may help you see possible solutions more clearly.

5

Know When to Ask for Help

If stress continues and begins to affect your sleep, daily life, relationships, or work, consider speaking with a healthcare professional to receive appropriate support and care.

“How is your mind feeling today?”

You don't have to be strong all the time.
