
What is the MMR Vaccine?
The MMR vaccine is a combination vaccine that protects against three diseases:
• Measles
• Mumps
• Rubella
This vaccine contains live attenuated viruses and is highly effective in providing long-term immunity against all three diseases.
Who Should Receive the MMR Vaccine?
Young Children (according to the schedule of the Ministry of Public Health):
• 1st dose: at 9 months of age
• 2nd dose: at 30 months (2.5 years) of age
Adults who have never been vaccinated or are unsure of their infection history:
• Recommended to receive 2 doses, at least 4 weeks apart
• Especially important for individuals traveling to outbreak areas, healthcare workers, teachers, or those working with children
Women Planning to Become Pregnant:
• Should be tested for rubella immunity and receive the vaccine at least 1 month before becoming pregnant
Students and International Travelers:
• Many countries, such as the United States, Canada, and Japan, require documented proof of MMR vaccination prior to school enrollment or entry into the country
How Many Doses Are Needed?
• Children: 2 doses according to the national immunization schedule
• Adults: If unvaccinated or uncertain, 2 doses are recommended, 4 weeks apart
Is the MMR Vaccine Safe?
The MMR vaccine is globally recognized as safe and has been used widely for decades.
Most side effects are mild, such as low-grade fever or mild soreness at the injection site.
Precautions:
• Not recommended during pregnancy
• Avoid pregnancy within 1 month after vaccination
• Not suitable for individuals with severe immunodeficiency (e.g., cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, or HIV patients with low CD4 counts)
