Influenza is a major cause of acute respiratory infection and is associated with higher mortality in pregnant women, the elderly, and patients with chronic diseases.
Symptoms of Influenza
-
High fever (≥ 38°C)
-
Muscle aches

Runny nose and cough
-
In some cases, may lead to pneumonia or severe complications, requiring hospitalization or resulting in death, especially in high-risk groups
Benefits of Influenza Vaccination
-
Helps prevent influenza infection
-
Reduces the severity and complications of the disease
-
Helps reduce confusion when screening for co-infection between influenza and COVID-19
-
Individuals vaccinated against influenza prior to COVID-19 infection may have a lower risk of hospitalization
Why Vaccination is Important
Influenza vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent the disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand recommend annual vaccination for individuals aged 6 months and older.
-
Children under 9 years (first-time vaccination): 2 doses, 1 month apart
-
After that: 1 dose annually
How the Vaccine Works
-
Administered via intramuscular injection
-
Takes about 2 weeks to develop immunity
-
Provides protection against influenza strains included in the vaccine or closely related strains
-
Immunity lasts approximately 1 year, so annual vaccination is recommended
